speech-dialler or auto (gsm) dialler alarm system
With a speech-dialler alarm system, when the alarm is activated, pre-programmed telephone numbers are dialled and a pre-recorded message alerts the nominated person to respond. A problem with this type of alarm system is that if the telephone line is cut or disabled no signal can be sent. This type of alarm system cannot be programmed to automatically call the police.
A GSM alarm system sends the nominated person a text message when triggered and is not dependent on the telephone line; it can use a SIM card from any major network. There is no third party monitoring of the alarm system, but it can be a cost effective option as an alternative to a monitored alarm system contract.
monitored alarm systems
TThe alarm system installed is quite similar to a bells only system except that when the intruder alarm is activated a signal informs an Alarm Receiving Centre. The Centre will confirm that the alarm is not false and inform the Police, private security service provider or key holder as instructed. Only registered and certified installers, such as id-visual, can install monitored alarm systems with a unique reference number (URN) for the premises from an approved Alarm Receiving Centre that is recognised by the Police.
digital communications
With this addition to an alarm system a range of different alarm signals can be monitored by an Alarm Receiving Centre.
The system can usually monitor up to eight ‘channels’, covering for example:
- Panic alarm and hold up signals.
- Opening and closing of the premises
- Setting and unsetting of the system.
- Power failure of the system leading to potential power problems in your business.
Fire alarm activations.
To maintain the required level of protection from your alarm system it is important that it is installed and maintained by a certified SSAIB installer monitored signalling system. These are systems that monitor the ‘signal path’ between the protected premises and the Alarm Receiving Centre that monitors the alarm system.
In the event that the signalling path is interrupted (in the case of a burglary, usually the telephone cable being cut) an alarm is activated at the Alarm Receiving Centre and either the Police or the key holder of the premises is informed. This is a more secure system that is becoming more commonly used to tackle organised criminal gangs.
internet protocol (ip) signalling
Whilst this option has been available for sometime it is still the ‘new kid on the block’ as far as tried and trusted security system go. Security systems using IP signalling connect to an Alarm Receiving Centre via the public Internet. The alarm system is dependent upon your in-house network, but may be able to provide alternative signal pathways to ensure signal continuity.
monitoring centres
Monitoring Centres perform a central and critical role in both the fire and intruder alarm sectors. Activations from monitored intruder alarm systems must be routed through an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) for verification prior to being passed to the relevant authorities. As an SSAIB registered installer id-visual has a duty of care to select the most appropriate system for your business. We are recognised by local police authorities as an approved company that specialises in the installation and maintenance of intruder alarm systems for commercial industrial and domestic properties.
